THINGS YOUNG PARENTS HEAR TOO OFTEN.

Hello, my sweet sweet friends! If you’re a young parent like myself I hope you find this post funny! If you’re someone who has ever said any of these things to a parent you should be ashamed of yourself. Enjoy!!

1.GOD, THAT SUCKS!

This is probably the first thing I heard when I announced I was pregnant. I get it, getting pregnant at twenty isn’t ideal, but pointing out a shitty situation doesn’t make it any less shitty. If you’ve even had a friend tell you they’re expecting a child think twice before you say this to them. Seriously, it hurts.

2. DON’T YOU WISH YOU WOULD HAVE WAITED?

I’m sure there are some people in their early twenties who couldn’t wait to have kids. So I’m sure when they found out they were expecting they couldn’t have been happier. For myself (and I’m sure for most people) this couldn’t be further from the truth. In the beginning, I was not excited, or happy at all. I was terrified and confused. I literally cried for about a week straight. That being said, when someone tells you they’re expecting a little one (most likely a little earlier than they thought they would) don’t insult them by pointing out the obvious. YES, they probably wish they would have waited. They’ve decided to roll with it, so they don’t need you pointing that out captain obvious.

3. HOPEFULLY, THEY DON’T MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE YOU DID. 

If you’ve ever said this to someone go tell that person you’re sorry! I can’t count the time I’ve had someone tell me this, but each time it happens my heart breaks. This is possibly the worst thing you could say to someone expecting a baby. If you don’t have children of your own then you don’t understand how scary it can be. Seriously, everything gets scary after you have a child. Trust me, parents have enough on their minds already. They don’t need you making them feel like they’re going to mess up their kid. Believe me, they already worry about that all the time.

4. YOU’RE DOING ____ WRONG!

Feel free to fill in the blank with whatever you’d like. If you’re a parent I’m sure you’ve heard this a few times. When you become a parent it’s like people automatically assume you want their opinion. You can expect to hear from anyone and everyone how you’re doing something the wrong way. For my readers who don’t have children I’ll go ahead and let you know, there is NO right way to raise a child.

5 REASON YOU SHOULD DRINK LEMON WATER

Hello my sweet sweet friends! I’m glad you’re back. Today I’m continuing the theme of healthy habits. I hope these tips will help you all lead a healthy lifestyle. Well, on to the good stuff.

  1. It helps boost your immune system.

Hello, Vitamin C! Keeping your natural levels of vitamin C can be difficult due to stress, and other environmental factors. This drop in vitamin C can leave you more susceptible to illness. Having a glass of warm lemon water every morning will help keep your immune system in tip-top shape!

2. It can help lower blood pressure

The high levels of potassium found if lemons can not only lower your blood pressure, but it can also improve brain function.  If you want to improve your focus, have an afternoon cup of lemon water or tea. Whatever floats your boat.

3. It balances your ph

Lemons are one of the most alkaline foods out there, because of this lemons can help create an alkaline state in your body. This helps your body restore itself to homeostasis. This is extremely important because and acid environment within our bodies creates a breeding ground for cancer.

4. It could help you with weight loss.

Lemons are high in pectin fiber. This type of fiber helps fight hunger pangs and can make you feel fuller for longer. Sip on lemon water between meals, and might find yourself reaching for snacks less often.

5. It aids in digestion

Lemon water helps your body flush out unwanted material, helps your liver produce bile, a substance essential for proper digestion. Better digestion equals less heartburn and constipation!

6 HEALTHY HABITS FOR THE NEW YEAR.

Hello my sweet sweet friends. I’m glad you could join me for this mid-week blog post. I’d love some feed back from you guys. Please let me know if you enjoyed this  extra post, or if you prefer I posted once a week.

So I’m sure a lot of you are a lot like me around this time of year; you set a goal to become a healthier person. Well if you are like me, you’ve probably fell off that wagon once, or twice, or seven hundred times . But hey-new year new you, right? This year I’m determined to stick to my goal of getting healthier, and I figured I should share my favorite healthy tips with all of you guys!

1.Use coconut oil every day!

I know, I know you’ve been hearing people talk about coconut oil for years now. Just bare with me on this guys, I mean if it wasn’t truly amazing would everyone be talking about it?! Honestly coconut oil is one of the best multi purpose health product out there. It can be used for almost anything. It’s great for oil pulling, DIY toothpaste, I even rub it on my dog’s teeth and gums. It works as a wonderful skin and hair moisturizer, and you can even cook with it. Seriously you can really use it for almost anything! Plus it is high in a ton  of nutrients. When looking for coconut oil look for an organic, cold pressed, unrefined, virgin oil. The brand Nutiva is great!

2. Eat hemp seeds daily!

Hemp seeds are rich in fatty acids, they’re rich in minerals, and hemp seeds are also a wonderful source of easily digestible protein. Because of all this they can help support cardiovascular health. Try putting them in salads, or even making your own hemp milk. Just make sure you don’t put them on anything hot. I like to make sure I always have some Nutiva organic hemp seeds in the fridge!

3. Always have a snack with You!

Making sure you always have a snack with you is so important. I always have a bar with me either in my purse, or diaper bag. Having a snack on me not only helps keep my blood sugar stable, but also keeps me from getting hangry! When you’re out and about BRING A SNACK WITH YOU! This way you won’t be tempted to buy fast food because you’re starving. These Luna bars are the ones I always have on me. The lemon zest flavor is the best ( if I do say so myself) but they have a ton of flavors for you to try.

4. Swap table salt for Himalayan salt!

Conventional table salt is highly processed,and during its manufacturing it is often bleached and has anti- clotting agents and artificial iodine added to it. As most of us know high levels of table salt can cause health problems, since sodium is an essential part of the human diet switching to Himalayan salt is a much healthier alternative. Unlike table salt Himalayan salt is rich in 80+ minerals, high in natural iodine, regulates blood pressure, balances electrolytes, and can reduce muscle cramps.If that wasn’t enough it’s pink too! This Himala Salt brand is a good choice, plus it comes in a refillable grinder!

5. Eat more fermented food!

Fermented foods are great for gut health. They are an amazing source of pro-biotics, B vitamins, and immune boosting nutrients. They aid in good digestion, and can help clear some skin conditions. Our gut is where our immune system lives, so a healthy guy equals a healthy body overall. Try adding foods like kimchi, or sauerkraut to your diet. If you like fizzy drinks ,kombucha is a great alternative to sugar filled sodas.

6.Add more turmeric and cinnamon to your diet!

Turmeric and cinnamon are amazing spices. Not only will they add wonderful flavor to your food, but they are packed with tons of health properties too! Turmeric contains curcumin a powerful anti inflammatory, and antioxidant. Turmeric is great for heart health and if you’re suffering from pain you can take a concentrated dose of turmeric in capsule form. Gaia herbs turmeric supreme is like natures ibuprofen! When adding turmeric to food try taking it with black pepper, and some healthy fats (like coconut oil) for best absorption.

Like turmeric, cinnamon is a powerful anti inflammatory,and antioxidant. It’s also anti microbial, can lower blood sugar, and improve heart health. However all cinnamon is NOT created equal. The cinnamon found in most stores is cassia cinnamon also known as Chinese cinnamon. This type does not hold all of cinnamon’s amazing health properties. You want to make sure you’re using Ceylon cinnamon in order to gain all the benefits. Ceylon cinnamon is native to Sri Lanka, and has a much sweeter taste and contains the true health benefits.

5 Toxic Chemicals Found in Everyday Products.

Well We all know I love natural products! When we’re faced with so many products that are filled with harmful ingredients, who wouldn’t!

Like a lot of people out there I would become dizzy and often very sick when I used conventional cleaning products.In fact, a few years ago, while cleaning my bathroom I almost fainted because of the fumes! That’s when I deiced I would take a look at the ingredients list of the products I was using. I’m sure this is no shock to you, but I didn’t recognize a single ingredient, so I started doing some research. What I found was terrifying, and if I’m being honest it enraged me. How could companies get away with putting these toxic chemicals in their products! After I made this discovery I was determined to make a change. I’ve been using natural products even since, and I’m loving it! I’m loving it so much, I felt compelled to share my knowledge with others. Below is a list of just a FEW of the many chemicals that have very harmful side effects, and ways to avoid them. Enjoy!

  1. BPA

Bisphenol a (BPA) was created in the 1891,and in the late 1930s it was discovered that BPA acted as a synthetic estrogen. Because of it’s ability to mimic estrogenbit was meant to be used as birth control. Soon after the birth control plans failed scientists discovered BPA could be used to make plastics hard. Since then it’s been used in everything from plastic food container, to baby bottles and has been linked to various forms of cancer, as well as reproductive problems and heart disease.

How to Avoid It: Since BPA is found in so many items, it can be hard to avoid. To minimize your family’s exposure, avoid plastics that are marked with “PC” or recycling label #7. BPA is also commonly used in receipt paper, so forgo taking receipts whenever possible.

  1. DIOXIN

Dioxin is a carcinogen that can easily build up in the body. It is cause by manufacturing processes such as pesticide manufacturing, and the chlorine bleaching of paper products, and feminine hygiene products. It’s linked to immune and reproductive disorders such as endometriosis.

How to Avoid It: This toxin is commonly found in animal products especially fish, milk, and eggs, So try eating fewer animal products. For all my ladies, out there dioxin is found in conventional pads, and tampons. To avoid this try buying organic feminine hygiene products or consider using a menstrual cup to help your health and the planet!

  1. PHTHALATES

Phthalates are used in hundreds of products throughout our homes. This chemical helps create flexible, durable, and resistant products such as flexible PVC. Because this chemical is used in so many products it can be difficult to avoid.

How to Avoid It: This chemical is commonly found in toys, plastic food containers and plastic wrap that are made from PVC. Phthalates can also be found in personal care items such as lotion, body wash etc. They are sometimes listed as “fragrances” so be sure to check the labels. Try switching to fragrance free products, or products that are scented with essential oils instead.

  1. PERCHLORATE

The chemical Perchlorate is commonly found in rocket fuel. This component can severely disrupt thyroid function. Decreased thyroid function can cause anything from fatigue, and weight gain to a slowed heart rate and depression.

How to Avoid It: Perchlorate is most often found on fresh produce, and in milk, so avoiding it altogether isn’t possible. You can try cutting out dairy, and buying organic when you can.

  1. PARABENS 

Parabens are commonly used in cosmetics and personal care products to prevent the growth of bacteria These harmful chemical can mimic estrogen in the body. Exposure to high levels of parabens is now being linked to the development of breast cancer.

How to Avoid It: Switch to paraben free products, and I can’t stress this enough READ THE LABELS! Companies can say a product is paraben free but when you read the ingredients list it’s a different story. So make sure you always read the labels. If you’d like to make sure your products don’t contain parabens make them yourself. There are tons of fun DIYs for everything from body lotion, laundry detergent.

WHY WE DON’T VACCINATE

Well hello, my sweet, sweet friends! I’m glad you’re back for another one of my crazy blog posts.

I guess I should be honest and tell you guys I debated if I should make this post at all. After a lot of thought, I decided I would go ahead with this post. I know some of you may not agree with my family’s choice not to vaccinate, and that’s okay. I’m not writing this to convince you of anything, I’m simply making this post to share MY reasons for not vaccinating my son.

To the people who don’t agree with my choice please keep in mind I’m a person with feelings just like you, I welcome your feedback but if you have any negative comments please keep them to yourself. And to the family’s that are just like mine, know that you are not alone, I understand your struggles, and I will stand tall beside you in this fight. At the end of the day, agree with me or not we are all parents who are trying to do the very best for our children. Please keep that in mind. Now on to the good stuff

so….Why don’t I vaccinate?

THE VACCINE SCHEDULE

To help keep this post as short as possible ( yeah I know I basically wrote a book) I’ll just be comparing the CDC recommended vaccination schedule of 1995 to the one the CDC recommends today. If you’d like to take a look at all the vaccine schedules from 1995 until today I’ve included a handy- dandy link that will take you straight to the CDC website. If you’d like to go straight to the vaccine schedules I’m looking at today just click the year you’d like to view and it will take you right to the charts.(You’re welcome).
In 1995 it was recommended children receive at total of 19 vaccinations over a 12-year span. Today (the CDC still recommends the 2015 schedule for today’s children) the CDC recommend children receive a total of 28 vaccinations BEFORE age 12. This number DOES NOT INCLUDE the vaccines recommended for 12-18-year old children or the pneumococcal pneumonia vaccine. With those vaccines included the number becomes a staggering 35 vaccinations by age 18. So as you can see the number of recommended vaccines has more than doubled in the past 22 years. I personally found this unsettling. I was not comfortable injecting my child with 35 doses of 15 different viruses. Once I saw how many vaccines my son was supposed to have I started to do more research, and what I discovered was terrifying.

VACCINE INGREDIENTS

Don’t worry I’m not going to bombard you with a huge list of mystery chemical and ingredients. I’ll keep my list here short, but if you’re interested in the ingredients of the recommended childhood vaccines I’ve made it easy for you. So here are just a FEW of the ingredients in vaccines and why the CDC says they need to be in them.

Aluminum gels or salts of aluminum which are added as adjuvants to help the vaccine stimulate a better response. Adjuvants help promote an earlier, more potent response, and more persistent immune response to the vaccine.

Antibiotics which are added to some vaccines to prevent the growth of germs (bacteria) during production and storage of the vaccine. No vaccine produced in the United States contains penicillin.

Egg protein is found in influenza and yellow fever vaccines, which are prepared using chicken eggs. Ordinarily, persons who are able to eat eggs or egg products safely can receive these vaccines. ( This is also found in the MMR)

Formaldehyde is used to inactivate bacterial products for toxoid vaccines, (these are vaccines that use an inactive bacterial toxin to produce immunity.) It is also used to kill unwanted viruses and bacteria that might contaminate the vaccine during production. Most formaldehyde is removed from the vaccine before it is packaged.

Monosodium glutamate (MSG) and 2-phenoxy-ethanol which are used as stabilizers in a few vaccines to help the vaccine remain unchanged when the vaccine is exposed to heat, light, acidity, or humidity.

Thimerosal is a mercury-containing preservative that is added to vials of vaccine that contain more than one dose to prevent contamination and growth of potentially harmful bacteria.
We all know that these substances not only unhealthy but can also be incredibly dangerous. So let me ask you..why are we injecting these into our children?

I know, I know this is a touchy subject.I’m sure this is where a few of you are going to sign off. I understand, trust me I really do.
